I absolutely love Japanese food, sashimi, wasabi etc. I was recently mind blown when I finally realized that most store bought wasabi is made with horse radish and green dye! I’m sure plenty of you knew this but I did not. So I went on a search to a Japanese market and got salmon sashimi and REAL wasabi (Wasabia japonica) instead of dyed horse radish. I tried some on the sashimi and some by itself and it was amazing. The differences between real wasabi and fake wasabi are night and day. The real stuff has a creamy texture with tiny pieces of the root in it. It also has more flavor and tastes so much better. The green color looks much more pronounced and vibrant. Now when I look at the fake wasabi it’s more yellow/fake looking.
I will now only be eating the real deal with my sashimi and foods. The sashimi from the Japanese market tasted much better than the mainstream stores too.
Do you like wasabi? Did you know most are fake?
