Tubal ligation vs Vasectomy cost

I’ve noticed that the former seems to cost significantly less here. One article told me that tubal ligation costs around 50000~100000 yen, while vasectomies cost around 150000 yen. Is this true?

  1. I am not sure about the cost, but I can say that I’ve heard that women often need the consent of a partner to get a tubal ligation or to get sterilized in general in Japan, and still have major trouble getting approved if they don’t already have children (while a man can get a vasectomy and won’t be questioned in the same way). I looked into this topic before moving to Japan and found that there are significant administrative barriers for women to be sterilized rather than men. (Japan isn’t the only country that’s like that, but Japan does go further with this than some other countries). I know that your question is regarding the cost, but if you’re asking this to make the argument that it’s more feasible or reasonable for a woman to get sterilized in Japan as opposed to a man getting sterilized, there’s much more to it than just cost and for women it can range anywhere from impractical to impossible to get sterilized (especially if she has no existing children, and even more so if she has no current long-term male partner). Just something to add to the general discussion of the topic. Good luck!

  2. Did a quick google on both, not comprehensive, but it looks like tubal ligation is close to what you say (I saw more 80000-120000 pricing on first page of results), but vasectomies seem to be more, as we say in Japanese, “pinkiri” (wide range). Cheapest at 50000, most closer to 200000 yen.

Not sure how I’d feel about going for the cheapest options for either one.
