  2. Shota Umino had a better match with Yujiro Takahashi than Ren Narita could with Taichi and Satoshi Kojima.

  3. ZSJ vs Oiwa was a top tier match with a disappointing ending, not completely frustrating like DOUKI beating Wato, but Oiwa really needs to win something big sooner rather than later. He’s been losing big match after big match and I’m afraid he’ll end up like Umino. Hope he takes the Global title this year.

    Hoping for Uemura vs Narita semis and Callum vs Shota semis.

  5. While I appreciate Yujiro putting effort into a match for the first time in 12 years, did it have to be against Ukino who is constantly struggling for credibility.

    But this might have been the best set of matches this far.

    Umino Vs ZSJ is always great and would be a huge win for Umino at this point in time.

  8. Oiwa vs Zack was MOTT just a banger of a match but man I really wanted oiwa to win not just because Shota vs Oiwa is a fresh match but we can finally have Oiwa beating Zack since this is their 4th singles match vs each other and zack has won all of them but NOPE.

  9. As someone who’s been a big Oiwa-head ever since his NOAH excursion, it’s awesome to see him routinely have great matches and great reactions as of late.

    Hopefully, NJPW well and truly realizes what they got with him and don’t give him the Umino treatment.

  10. I think Uemura beats Takagi.

    Narita could go further but I think Oleg makes sense for his next defence.

    Newman makes the most sense for Tsuji’s next challenger and this will be a big win to legitimise him.

    I have Umino beating Zack, needs it way more now and it clearly seems the new gen is the focus right now.

    Although Umino vs Uemura is a very interesting final.

  11. I see it being Oleg/Uemura on the left, and either Umino/Goto or Newman/ZSJ on the right. My original pick was Newman, but now I think Umino wins NJC.

  13. People wonder what’s happened with Shota ans all I have to say is look no further than at Oiwa’s current situation- every time he’s got an important match, he loses. At some point, fans aren’t gonna want to get behind a wrestler that always chokes.

    Also, I see New Japan is really going all in on Callum. I don’t really see it, but time will tell I guess.

  14. Oh, we’re more than likely trying face Shooter again instead of having him go heel.

    … Eh, not the direction I would’ve went in but I’ll wait and see.

    Unless he cheats to one up ZSJ or something and runs tweener.

  15. Yuya has looked great so far, I really hope they use this as an opportunity to crown him as a top guy. Going over ZSJ or Goto in the finals would be huge for him.

  16. I’m going to disagree with the general sentiment here and say it was good Zack won.

    As it stands Zack is the most credible main eventer in the company based on accomplishments (not counting the dads).

    But he hasn’t done much of note in a singles capacity since dropping the title. They need to make sure he doesn’t fall down the card like Shingo and EVIL did as he can play that gaijin main eventer.

    Oiwa is a great prospect but it’s worth remembering he’s not that long back from excursion. Umino, Tsuji, Narita and Uemura have all been back longer than him.

  17. ZSJ vs. Oiwa was fantastic. Apparently Tsuji wants to run through the former IWGP champions..(ZSJ, Goto, Takagi..) and ZSJ owes him a job. I could see ZSJ winning it all. I’m not sure the point of him going over here if he isn’t going all the way.

  18. I understand holding Oiwa back only if the plan was to give Shota a revenge win over Zack and do Yuya/Shota final and backpocket an Oiwa/Shota singles match. Otherwise doesn’t mske a whole lot of sense. Rest of the field is 100% correct.

  20. Sooo.. Yuya wins, Boltin wins to set up a NEVER defence, Callum wins, Zack wins (hopefully).
