I keep thinking about where this story is going and going back and forth in thinking how it'll go. The one thought is that it will a quick story with Newman's betrayal and the match between them coming soon with the match happening by Dominion. The other thought I keep having is that it'll be a slower burn with Ospreay returning a few times over the course of the year and the betrayal not happening until sometime during the period between the G1 and the Dome Show. With that second choice the match would of course take place on January 4th.

Newman turns on Ospreay at Sakura Genesis, setting up a match at either Wrestling Dontaku or Dominion. Then build to a big Dome match to fully establish Newman as the top Gaijin, that sounds like the most logical timeline to me
Personally, Callum vs Ospreay at WK. Newman may or may not beat Tsuji, but will at longest drop it to either Yuya or back to Tsuji at Dominion. Personally I’d have him lose and Yuya should take it off Tsuji at Dominion, then slowly build up Callum vs Ospreay at WK, probably with a betrayal at around Power Struggle.
What I think will happen is Callum beats Tsuji, turns on Ospreay, Ospreay takes the title at Dominion, and we have an outsider world champ until G1 winner Tsuji takes it off him at Power Struggle, and we get Callum vs Ospreay rubber match at WK. I absolutely do not want this to happen.
While I could see the logic in having a match at Dontaku or Dominion, I’ve said since Ospreay’s return that this will be Newman’s big WK match/moment and I think I still stand by that.
I think the biggest factor of when it will happen is how many dates NJPW can get Ospreay back for.
Gedo tends to like to build suspense in stories like these, and I think he’ll do just that if he has the freedom to. I think Ospreay will continue to (in Newnan’s view) involve himself where he’s not needed or wanted (in UE’s business).
The betrayal may even come at Sakura Genesis or at Dontaku or Dominion. Because I think we may see a civil war within UE, even if briefly. With Andrade, Jake, Akira, JAY and Zane ultimately siding with Callum. I think HENARE and GOK will side with Will, maybe Templario too if they can get him back for this. We’ll see some kind of multi-man UE vs UE match.
Maybe with HENARE and GOK coming around and falling in line behind Callum after another UE vs UE match where Will’s not able to be there, HENARE and GOK get beat up and they feel like Will’s leaving them to fight his battles.
All of this builds to a singles match at WK between Callum and Will, where Callum slays Ospreay.
I’d love a slow burn. I’d like to see a hint of insecurity with Ospreay with his neck injury being the cause. I like the idea of Ospreay not being truly aware of how dangerous Newman has become since he’s been away. I can see it now: Ospreay bends down to pick up a microphone and then BOOM! “Excalibur” to the surgically repaired neck.
Alternative: Ospreay turns heel and enables Newman’s despicable rise to the throne. Ospreay claiming that he wouldn’t want anyone else to rule in Japan than his apprentice compatriot.
Dominion probably.
I think all the people saying Newman vs Ospreay can only be at WK are vastly overestimating how important either of those two, or their feud, are to the people who will actually pay to watch or attend WK. It should be at Dominion (not one of the matches that gets on the special TV thing) and then if Ospreay is serious about giving back to njpw more he can put over a long-term – read: Japanese – prospect at WK.
My prediction: Tsuji beats Newman and challenges Ospreay to a title match because he wants to face former champions. Beats him and moves on to his next challenger.
I don’t think we’re going to get the big falling out between Newman and Ospreay till Dominion. The build up to that will be tag matches where the Empire wins due to Newman cheating tactics and Ospreay sees and is disappointed at what Callum is becoming and Newman turns on him leading to a Match at the Tokyo Dome which Ospreay wins and Callum gets his win back later.
Callum loses against Tsuji, and that knock against his confidence reignites his bitterness towards Ospreay, because of the reminder that he’s still in Ospreay’s shadow.
Remember, all of this is about Callum resenting being seen as lesser than his mentor (which he is, and that’s why it works). At some point Callum snaps and costs Ospreay a win then fully turns on him, and it turns into a ‘will they, won’t they’ for UE, before they eventually pick Callum, cementing the stable’s turn, and Ospreay gets booted back to AEW, then returns again later for a showdown match with Callum that Callum wins.
I’m tempted to say that Newman is Ospreay’s opponent for All In
I know everyone wants him to turn at genesis but I think UE should turn on Osperay at FD, callum and Osperay face each other at WK that Callum wins but I doubt that happens if Osperay is world champion around then but who knows but also it would be cool if they had rematch after that at FD next year perhaps there it would be for the aew belt then Osperay gets his victory back. Osperay possibly being aew world champion is the weird variable in this whole thing cuz Callum should win at least one match against Osperay
I love all your ideas. We could all be writers, lol. I think this could be a great long story but I think it depends on Ospreays schedule. I feel like you have to put both schedules next to each to figure it out. I hope we get him in the G1 but I don’t think we will. Is his fiancee doing a run in Stardom, I think that would help. No matter what I think by the end Newman will beat Ospreay
The big match will be at WK. But I wouldn’t be surprised to see another one before it, maybe at Forbidden Door.
Am I dumb for thinking it could be at All In London?
