  1. How can I use Anki effectively to learn Japanese, rather than just using Anki to use Anki? I feel like I spend too much time on flashcards and just memorizing some words but no context around them.

Its also very discouraging as I get cards wrong and have to keep struggling with them. Like “library” or “cafeteria”, even though I don’t think I really need to focus on those. I’m getting my word list from Tobira as I work through it, but I’m stalling out on progressing through the book until I’ve mastered the Anki deck which feels like I’m just doing Anki at this point and not learning the language any more.

What to do? I’ve been enjoying reading Japanese Twitter to learn a lot more lately since its contextual. Should I just de-emphasize Anki and stop focusing on textbook wordlists? Maybe I could use my textbook for grammar and get wordlists elsewhere from immerision.

Idk, feeling a bit lost and discouraged.
