Definitely not a good time when your good ‘friend’ Donald, who is supposed to have your back, is not doing his job and busy causing wars abroad, which causes oil spikes in your country. And now you find yourself left alone.
Surprising from this pm
I think the real issue isn’t visiting Yasukuni Shrine, but rather separating the Koreans and Taiwanese who were enshrined there. If that were done, I wouldn’t particularly mind them holding ceremonies for the World War II war criminals. After all, they are considered ancestors to Japan.
It is becoming increasingly apparent that the “Iron Lady” is made of a substance much more malleable such as tin.
A rare move towards actually trying to calm things down, after all the shit she’s already said and done I’m surprised.
Makes sense. Unclear what constituency she would gain by doing this, given that the audience who would most want her to pay the visit are also already completely in the tank for her.
Good
The last time a sitting Prime Minister visited there was 12 years ago, and the time before that was 20 years ago. To put it bluntly, the practice is a thing of the past. Not doing it is now the standard protocol, so it’s hardly a surprise. Like her predecessors, Takaichi’s actions in office are proving to be far more steady and pragmatic than her initial reputation suggested.
There
Nobody living was mortally offended (the important part)
and the world keeps turning. No Shinto gods or angry spirits of suicide pilots harassed anyone. (Nobody actually cares about this lol)
Taco
China and South Korea always make insincere threats.
A good move
How about a politician avoid doing it on principle?
I mean sure, this is a good start, but I’m not giving her any brownie points for reluctantly doing the bare minimum to be a decent human being.
Good
huh?
She really forgets her roots …
Wise decision, for once
“Takaichi skips Yasukuni visit to avoid glorifying convicted Class A war criminals” would be better.
She’s triple smart and astutely perceptive which the diabetic Disney bear in Beijing lacks in spades.
Prudent.
Hot take, that shrine should not even exist unless they remove the factual war criminals from there and do whatever it takes to rehabilitate its image. No I’m not a CCP bot.

Finally a PM with some balls!
Prudent move in this climate.
