Apparently Scientology is dropping fliers in Greater Tokyo Area mailboxes. I’m in west Chiba and just got these

Of course I warned all my Japanese neighbors about Scientology then threw the fliers away and they were quite grateful

  1. I just spoke with some big names…..we are sending in Streets LA to address the matter….

Fear not Japan, a hero is on the way.

  2. Don’t they have a big building in Shinjuku? Tom Cruise is pretty popular here, I assume they are doing as well as the jehovas witnesses (that I see nearly DAILY on my commute, no matter where I go – I frequent 3 different stations).

  3. Gross. They’ve been spamming me in Tokyo for years but I guess they’re expanding their tentacles outside the Yamanote line now 🤮 my immortal alien soul thetans are perfectly happy where they are, the volcano nuclear bomb thing was a long time ago. (If that doesn’t make sense, you gotta Google how insane Scientology is)

  4. *Sigh*… Just another case of a foreign brand thinking it can come into Japan and skate to success on some foreign cool factor.

That might have worked decades ago, but the modern Japanese consumer is discerning, and expects a cult to be really localized to be credible.

Why would any self-respecting Tanaka-san join Scientology when they’ve got Happy Science and a dozen other proper homegrown local scam cults to join?

  5. i did have the strangest experience today where a well-presented, dare i say good-looking woman rang my doorbell and when i asked who it was she just said hi and kept smiling like “please open” and i said yeah nah. could it be these fuckers? or did i see a fucking ghost.

  6. I got a weird dianetics flyer about 4 years ago in Kobe. They seem to have been established in Japan for a while now.

  7. Given JWs are at every other station on a given weekend this shouldn’t be surprising. You could always go and ask them about Xenu and higher Thetans

  8. So given the problems that Japan has had in the past with cults like Aum, why is it the government does not take preventative actions against these places. Deny foreign cults from purchasing property, something to prevent them from getting a foothold.

  9. They’ve been here for decades. Your Japanese neighbours probably think you’re insane for throwing out their flyers that they were going to ignore anyway
