I really need advice

Hi, I'm a 21 year old solo female traveller and I am going to be in Japan for 12 days, May 28th to June 9th. This is my second trip to Japan. First time I went, I visited for 10 days. I hit Tokyo and Kyoto/Nara. This time, I'd like to see a little bit more of Tokyo and check out Osaka, but I'm still deciding if I should check out Okinawa and for how long. I'm thinking from June 4th- June 8th. But, there's a few things I'm curious about-

If I go, would it be raining all day everyday? I don't mind the rain too much though.

Is it worth the visit? I love the beach and have been to Hawaii a few times and loved it. I love to snorkel. I've never been kayaking but I'm up to try it. I also don't mind renting a car in Okinawa to get around.

Is 4 days enough? I want to definitely take a day trip or two out to those other amazing islands. I just don't know the best way to go about this, I don't know where I should stay. I've been doing a lot of research but WHY does everyone have such mixed and different opinions? It's so stressful when half of people are saying Okinawa isn't worth it and then the other half says it is. Please, any advice would be GREATLY appreciated!

  1. It’s possible it will be raining for at least some of the time that you’re here, as our rainy season starts about a month before mainland Japan.

Is it worth it? It really depends on what you’re looking for, as it is a very different experience from mainland Japan. You will absolutely want to rent a car if you want to explore the more remote and beautiful parts of the island, although you could take a ferry or snorkeling tour to the Kerama islands from Naha, too.

  2. I liked it, chill atmosphere, nice beach and stuff, more laid back that some places. I was only there for a couple days so would have liked more time! It only rained once but when it did it was like standing under the best shower one could wish for. That was in early may, so maybe it’ll be more likely to rain for your dates.

It’s quite a way from mainland Japan so if it’s only part of your trip I don’t know if it’d be better spending more time in another mainland part. There’s plenty to see all over without a few hours on a plane each way

  3. Do you have an IDP? You’ll need it to rent a car.

I reckon people who say it’s not worth it just walked around American Village for days on end. The best parts of da island are all around it

  4. We are here presently and it has been fantastic. We did 3 days in Naha with a one day trip to kerrama for snorkeling (incredible experience). I think thats the max time I’d want to spend in Naha before moving elsewhere in the area (which I’d want to to if I visited again, maybe 5 days with 2 up north or 6 with 3 out in Ishigaki). Just walking

We have some background familiarity with RyuKyu Kobodo/Ishin Ryu Karate so we are a little predisposed to being endeared to the area and its history but even just the sights and tastes were incredible.
