Rollerblading in Kyoto?

Hi, everyone!

I just moved to Kyoto and I’m an amateur rollerblader and used it to do it every week back at home. Where is it possible here? Do people even do it here?

I have my own pair!

  1. Round One Stadium in Fushimi or Otsu has roller skating, though I think that’s also the sort of thing where they may expect you to use rental ones they provide? And that’s just kind of roller rink style. They’re banned in a lot of places outdoors, and the cops may theoretically stop you, especially if you’re in the street (since technically they’re classified as toys and not vehicular traffic).

Oh! Looking it up, Takaragaike Urban Sports Park has a new skate park, near Matsugasaki station. There are four days a month set aside for BMX, when you can’t do other skating. https://takaragaike-kyoto.jp/guide/

  2. Find a river. Most rivers have bike/walking paths. I’ve seen roller skaters on these roads. The one along Katsura River might be a good place to check out.
