Probably “warera” 我ら which usually means “we,us”

I always though われ on its own meant ‘we’. You don’t need the ら to make it plural.
In which case OP is likely hearing われは or われが (I’m suspecting the latter) which makes perfect sense.
OP, as far as pronunciation goes, Japanese Rs often have that hard sounding D at the start. Watch Death Note and listen to how they pronounce Ryuuku.

You’re probably searching for one of the various words for „we“. There is no word that means „we are“ in Japanese. The copula (the verb that means is/am/are) comes at the end of the predicate or is omitted completely.
