Universal Studio Japan (Apple Pay no longer supports VISA cards after March 31, 2023)

Planning to go to USJ later this year. I am from the United States. I was testing out the entire purchase experience just to see what to expect. Before I get to the payment step, I get this notice pop up that says “Please be noted that Apple Pay no longer supports VISA cards after March 31”

1. Anyone tried to book tickets after march 31 via USJ website and/or USJ app?
2. Are you using Apple Pay?
3. Which credit card has successfully worked? Visa/Mastercard/Discover/Amex?
4. If it didn’t work, did anyone contact their credit card company to see if that resolved the issue (bc the CC could be potentially blocking transaction since purchase is an overseas vendor)?

  1. I bought USJ tickets today through the official website and was a bit of a hassle. I managed to finally pay by going through the USJ app and using Apple Pay on a mastercard. This did take a few tries after declining payment a few times but eventually it does go through. Also the tickets do take a while to come through on email so I would suggest taking a screenshot of your order number for support in case there’s any major delays.

  2. The website did not work at all for me for any type of card. I tried every card I have multiple times. Buying on the app and using Apple Pay with a Mastercard worked but took 2 or 3 tries.

  3. I tried like 5 different cards on the website and none of them worked. Even one that I had used for everything else in Japan. Not sure where to go from here but sure would suck to not be able to get in.

  6. Make sure you make a reservation at USJ for anything you might be remotely interested in. Including Super Mario world

    Didn’t do my research and got disappointed in person 🤣

  7. I honestly thought none of my cards would work, but I was able to use my regular VISA credit card through Capital One without any issue. And this was on a desktop PC as I do not have Apple. I received my tickets and Express Passes via email right away.

  8. I’m Australian and I had to use Klook. USJ would not accept my Mastercard through Apple Pay. (It appears like it is going to work and comes up as Done on Apple Pay but then the website spits an error and no money is taken from the account)

  9. I booked early April via official website and Amex was accepted for me. I have a UK card and used apple pay!

  10. Just bought them through USJ app with Apple Pay tied to American Express and it worked instantly! Hope that helps you!
