Can dashi be transformed to a spice jar?

I bought dashi for the first time for making Miso soup.
I wonder can I open these sticks and put all the product into one container, would it ruin the dashi? Im thinking like spice jar

  1. I would keep it in the packets unless you plan to use it quickly. I have some dashi in packets and noticed it can quickly turn into a solid brick if you don’t use it quickly enough after opening it.

  2. Yup! The benefit of the tubes is just that it’s proportioned for you, like the right amount for one cup of soup or whatever it says on the bag.

  3. Yup. I live in a high humidity area so it needs to be kept refrigerated or in the freezer.

  4. I’m not sure but they do sell hondashi in powder form, so maybe for the future you could look for that. I have it and it’s great.

  5. Ajinomoto actually sells hondashi in small glass jars, so you definitely can. I would just store it in the fridge or freezer depending on how often you use it. I buy the small jars and keep mine in the fridge and have never had an issue.

  6. Absorbs moisture very quickly. So if you live in a arid area it’s fine, but don’t risk it if you stay at humid area

  7. Yes, just keep it chilled and airtight. I personally prefer to make dashi out of dried bonito flakes, it tends to not expire as quickly or be so picky with storage for some reason, but this stuff is great to use in a pinch.
