Pre-Show Match: Katsuya Murashima def Daiki Nagai — (7:26, Boston Crab)
Master Wato, YOH, Boltin Oleg, Toru Yano def Kosei Fujita, Robbie Eagles, Hartley Jackson, Ryohei Oiwa — (8:40, Kamikaze)
-
Oleg’s right leg is taped up from knee to underbutt.
-
YOH and Robbie start off, very briefly before Wato and Fujita come in. These are the pairs that are in the same BOSJ blocks.
-
Post-match, the Junior pairs briefly have words.
TAKA Michinoku, Taichi, Tomohiro Ishii, Yuya Uemura def BUSHI, Hiromu Takahashi, Tetsuya Naito[full suit t-shirt Naito version], Yota Tsuji — (9:03, Dangerous Backdrop)
-
Yuya is wearing his robe (the one he wore during the G1) that was made by a local fabric shop.
-
Naito plays some mind games by starting to re-robe halfway through disrobing.
-
Tsuji elects to start, Yuya predictably joins him.
-
Decent amount of Ishii and Hiromu together, who have both agreed to a singles match with the date TBD.
-
At one point TAKA gets heavily booed for stopping a BUSHI tope.
-
Post-match, Tsuji picks Yuya up and brings him into the ring to taunt him ahead of their title match tomorrow.
-
Naito lingers a bit as Taichi strips. One more match as an NJPW roster member.
-
Taichi is so focused on eyefucking the camera as he leaves that he misses a step down from the stage.
Ryusuke Taguchi, YOSHI-HASHI, Hirooki Goto def Jakob Austin Young, Great-O-Khan, Callum Newman — (10:43, Shoto)
-
Taguchi has traded up from an umbrella to a piece of legit unfinished pipe that’s longer than YH and Goto’s. He inserts himself into Bishamon’s tip-touching party.
-
Goto and Callum get in each other’s faces and then start us off. Callum is a bit more fiery tonight, once last chance to get Goto off his game.
-
At one point O-Khan gets triple-drummed, with Taguchi slappin da ass. He retaliates by sticking his thumb up Guch’s bum.
-
Post-match, Guch briefly gets O-Khan in some kind of wacky ass-to-face submission.
-
Meanwhile Callum briefly stands off with Goto.
-
One more celebratory triple staff touch on the stage.
NJPWWorld TV Title: El Phantasmo[c] [w/Jado] vs KONOSUKE TAKESHITA [w/Rocky Romero] — (Time Limit Draw, 15:00)
-
ICYMI, Rocky turned heel in AEW (after doing so in NJPW at WCR by attacking ELP) and joined Don Callis Family.
-
During the pre-match face off, TAKE jumpstarts things by punching ELP square in the face and then diving onto him on the outside.
-
ELP gets control, and Rocky quickly starts getting involved.
-
This pairing has been great every time we’ve seen it, today was no exception; though IMO you could tell they were holding back a tiny bit for the Resurgence match in just a few days.
-
Both men seem upset at the result, with ELP trying to ask for 5 more minutes; which TAKE seems to consider before Rocky advises him against it.
-
ELP tells us/the camera this is 6 years to the day since his NJPW debut.
Tanahashi Final Road ~Kinship~ Match: Zack Sabre Jr def Hiroshi Tanahashi — (13:07, Sabre Driver)
-
Pre-lockup popularity poll is 90/10 in favor of Tana.
-
Great (presumably) finale to a great series of single matches over the years. If this is in fact the end, their record is an even 7-7.
-
Post-match, Zack sits in front of Tana, holds his hand and bows his head to him then talks to him for a bit. Then he stands up, bows properly, and leaves. Tana rolls out quickly and is helped to the back.
-
In his Backstage Comments, Zack says he’ll be the WHC again soon. (I’ve been assuming since Chicago that he’s the Resurgence challenger.)
Shingo Takagi def Shota Umino — (15:07, Last of the Dragon)
-
Same old new Shooter look and entrance.
-
Shingo gets his extended theme/extra intro.
-
During his entrance Shingo diverts to the ring tables to grab a chair, and as soon as he gets in the ring he hurls it at Shota; who thankfully dodges. Shortly after, the ref (Marty) tries to get him to let Shota out of the corner and Shingo pushes him.
-
When Shota manages to get Shingo down for the first time, he gets a decently loud chant.
-
Eventually they go to the outside and Shingo finally gets in a couple chair shots.
-
Great performance from Shota, who ended up getting his nose busted during the Last of the Dragon. Shingo taunts him a bit before leaving.
-
As Shingo is leaving, he stops to shout at TAKESHITA, who’s on Japanese commentary.
-
In his Backstage Comments, Shingo brings up Goto’s name when talking about his peers in age and opportunities afforded by Naito leaving.
Dogpound Cage Match- Losers Leave Bullet Club: Taiji Ishimori, Clark Connors, Drilla Moloney, Gabe Kidd, David Finlay[w/Gedo] def Yoshinobu Kanemaru, SHO, SANADA, Ren Narita, EVIL[w/Dick Togo, Yujiro Takahashi] — (26:17, Avalance/Drill a Hole Piledriver [onto a barbed wire table])
-
They play a video recapping the recent House of Torture vs War Dogs happenings while they begin to set up the cage.
-
HoT out first to the new theme. SANADA up first, wearing an all-mirrored jumpsuit that the spotlights shine on for a moment. Everyone else is wearing just their gear and shirts.
-
Every member of both teams brings weapons with them. Finlay closes the door and locks it before any of the Dogs enter, and they all scale the cage instead.
-
I am not even going to attempt to fully play-by-play this, especially since it’s going to be one of those landmark matches that you should watch instead of reading about.
-
At the beginning of the in-ring portion of the match, Gabe hurls a chair at Ren that hits him in the head just wrong, and I got HENARE flashbacks. Gabe later did the exact HENARE spot of throwing a table at Ren, but Ren dodged it.
-
Drilla I love you but this is the second time I’ve seen you gig really obviously.
-
As one would predict, the cage does not keep people out; with Dick the first to invade, then Gedo, then Yujiro.
-
For all the craziness, it’s a pretty clean win for the Dogs.
-
Post-pin, EVIL handcuffs Finlay to the cage and puts a dog collar on him. He hangs Finlay with it briefly before leaving.
-
Finlay gets freed and goes to celebrate with his Dogs.
-
Gabe gets a mic. Leads the crowd in barking. HoT wanted to try and take it from them, but this is their fucking life. They are Bullet Club. Fuck AJ, Kenny, Jay; this is the number one Bullet Club ever. Fuck Tsuji and Yuya, War Dogs are saving the company. And if you ain’t down with that, you ain’t my dog for real.
-
Turns out this isn’t fully over. In their Backstage Comments, Finlay challenges EVIL to a Dog Collar Match. We also are probably getting Drilla vs SANADA sooner rather than later.
