It’s kuki wakame (as a salad). I bet you can find it at your local asian supermarket.
[Azuma Gourmet Seaweed Salad](https://www.costcobusinessdelivery.com/azuma-gourmet-seaweed-salad%2C-28-oz.product.100240829.html)
It comes already prepared. In Hawai’i it’s called [Ocean Salad](https://www.safeway.com/shop/product-details.970086223.html?productId=970086223&CMPID=organic_swy_all_surf_goo_20220629&psrc=g) but is often labeled as “seaweed salad.” It is sold at most supermarkets, food distributors or at Costco.
If you want to make this from scratch, you would need dried kombu, wakame hearts/stems, and ito-kanten, seasonings like sesame oil, vinegar, sesame seeds, and for that color, green food coloring.
It is available to purchase pre-prepared at many grocery stores that have frozen seafood, not just Japanese ones.
You can just buy the completed salad at an Asian grocery store
This particular seaweed salad is not one that you can easily replicate at home. You can make a really good seaweed salad from a mix of wakame and dulse or a premixed seaweed salad blend, but this particular seaweed salad is one you buy from a store.
We don’t even bother making this in our kitchen, we buy premade and frozen
if you’re in the uk [https://www.thefishsociety.co.uk/products/sesame-seaweed-salad?_pos=1&_psq=seaweed&_ss=e&_v=1.0](https://www.thefishsociety.co.uk/products/sesame-seaweed-salad?_pos=1&_psq=seaweed&_ss=e&_v=1.0)

This particular style is not super common in Japan, it is called Chinese style in Japan due to the flavor profile being of Chinese influence and I don’t know of a single restaurant that makes this from scratch, rather it is bought in frozen. In Japan kaiso wakame salad is more popular but does not taste anything like this type so if you want those style of seaweed salad id recommend just purchasing it from the supermarket and it is relatively easy to find at most Asian supermarkets.
commercially premade. restaurants buy in bulk in big bags. you can buy it from asian grocers in smaller qtys
Costco sell this too. Tho it’s not cheap
That stuff is full of dyes and sugar and it’s not Japanese.
Costco carries the Azuma brand
Spouts usually sells it!
I have found it near the kimchi and other chilled items at Asian groceries and also in the frozen section.
Costco sells a bag for like 9 bucks
Could also be labeled as ocean salad.
You can get wakame in plastic tubs or jars at a lot of groceries.
Idk but this stuff taste so dang good !!!
There’s like one or two producers of it that sell in the US. We got it in three pound tubs from our supplier but I’ve found it at CostCo.
My local fish market carries it
Like everyone says, Asian groceries would have them.
It’s kinda crazy because you can buy a whole 1kg bag here for like $7 and the restaurant I work at sells 120g containers of them for $5 LMAO. And people buy the shit out of it. Crazy 😭
They even carry it at Costco seasonally.
Damn, this thread made me feel better. I have been searching for the product to make it myself sans the dyes without success. I guess I will keep buying pre-made and just revel in it’s dyeness.
Looks like a Kaiso Salad. We buy the mix dry (called Kaiso Seaweed Mix) and rehydrated with water.
They’re sold in the frozen bunker
If in the US they sell at nearly every major grocery store near the store made sushi.
Costco sells seaweed salad.
Costco sells a massive 1kg bag of seaweed salad. I just picked up two bags for $2.97 each.
Costco has that and it’s really good
Costco sells it
You can also get the dried sea tangle from Asian supermarkets and make your own! But it’ll come in premade tubs in a lot of markets.
Just buy it, hope this helps!
