Japanese Yaki Mochi
Ingredients:
– 250g mochiko (sweet rice flour)
– 200ml water
– 2 tablespoons sugar
– Soy sauce, for brushing
– Optional toppings (e.g., bonito flakes, chopped green onions, or sesame seeds)
Instructions:
-
In a bowl, mix the mochiko, sugar, and water until smooth.
-
Transfer the mixture to a lightly greased microwave-safe dish. Microwave for about 2-3 minutes or until cooked through and chewy. Stir halfway through the cooking time for even texture.
-
Remove from microwave and let it cool slightly. Once cool enough to handle, knead the mixture on a clean surface for a minute to make it smooth.
-
Divide the dough into equal portions (about 8 pieces) and shape each piece into a round cake, about 1/2 inch thick.
-
Preheat a grill or a large skillet over medium heat. Grill the mochi cakes for about 2 minutes on each side until they develop a golden-brown crust.
-
Brush each side with soy sauce while grilling for added flavor.
-
Serve warm, with optional toppings as desired.
